Love Bridge Ministry: Rebuilding Lives One Morning at a Time

The Workbook and the Warmth: Rebuilding Lives One Morning at a Time By RedRoseMafia CHULA VISTA, CA — At exactly 7:00 AM inside the Love Bridge Ministry reentry ministry home, the day does not begin with the chaotic rush of the outside world. It begins with the gentle clinking of coffee mugs, the rustle of turning pages, and a quiet, sacred sense of community. I was recently invited to step inside this private space—not just to conduct interviews, but to pull up a chair and experience their morning routine firsthand. Before these women start their busy days job hunting or heading off to work, they commit their first hour to ground themselves in faith, fellowship, and accountability. As a dedicated community services nonprofit organization helping women in prison, Love Bridge Ministry provides a structured, sober living environment and the supervised mentorship programs essential for bridging the gap from incarceration to a productive return to society.

Watch the Morning Devotion & Firsthand

Sitting Down with Chaplain Benita Martinez

The foundational mission of Love Bridge Ministry is to reach incarcerated women bound by sin and addictions who feel they have no hope or direction. During my time at the home, I sat down and interviewed Chaplain Benita Martinez, speaking with her directly about how she steps up every single day to guide her group through this critical transition. Through her direct spiritual leadership, the ministry teaches women biblical principles through the Word of God that they can apply directly to their daily lives. As Chaplain Benita shared, the goal of this morning circle is to help these women truly know God and begin a lifelong relationship with Him, allowing them to develop the strong roots necessary to face the outside world. By creating these intentional support groups and offering dedicated, one-on-one mentoring after release from prison or jail facilities, she helps build a permanent framework for freedom.Learning to Adjust: The Real Work of ReentrySitting around a large round table with steaming cups of fresh coffee, I watched Chaplain Benita guide her group as the women opened their structured daily workbooks. This daily routine is designed to harness the power of faith, instill hope, enhance resilience, and cultivate a positive mindset—all of which are absolutely essential for successful recovery. However, the transition involves far more than just finding a job; it requires a complete mental and emotional shift. Around the table, the women openly process the intense daily challenges of learning to adjust to the outside world again. They discuss navigating strict work rules, managing different personalities in the workplace, controlling their anger when frustrations arise, and doing the heavy emotional lifting required to let go of the past.Living in a close-knit community with others who are on the exact same journey, these women hold each other accountable through every step of this adjustment period. What I experienced over the course of that morning hour was a masterclass in human strength. As we took turns reading aloud and processing the workbook prompts, the room moved through an entire spectrum of human emotion:The Weight of the Past: Heavy tears fell as women courageously spoke on the pain of incarceration, family separation, and the systemic barriers of starting over. The Joy of the Future: Moments later, the room would erupt into vibrant, contagious laughter as someone celebrated a small victory—like a breakthrough in the workbook, a successful job lead, or a moment of mental peace.Armed with Faith, Ready for WorkOnce the 7:00 AM devotion concludes and Chaplain Benita leads the closing prayers, the atmosphere shifts into one of purpose and drive. These ladies immediately get ready for the day ahead—ironing clothes, prepping bags, and heading out the door. Whether they are pounding the pavement to look for work or commuting to their current jobs, they enter the workforce anchored by the morning’s message and better equipped to handle the personalities and rules of the outside world. Through successful integration into the community, this program fosters a deep sense of self-worth, independence, responsibility, and a strong moral compass to move forward in life. Love Bridge Ministry ensures no woman has to process her freedom alone. I saw firsthand that true restoration is built on coffee, community, hard work, and the courage to turn the page together. How You Can Support This Ministry The daily devotions rely on simple comforts and structural tools to keep running smoothly as these women rebuild their careers and lives.
